10ft shark spotted in the sea at Cornwall leaving children terrified

Terrified children swimming in the sea during their school holidays were left paddling away in terror after spotting a 10ft basking shark on the Cornish coast!

The basking shark (which is absolutely harmless) was clearly seen gliding through the clear turquoise waters at one of the best spots in Cornwall; St Ives.

The youngsters described it as a scene from Jaws, in which they panicked and fled the water once they saw the shark's dorsal only a few waves way.

However, you'll be pleased to know that despite the sea creature's size, it is completely harmless to humans!

Basking sharks can look terrifying at first glance with their huge mouth and thousand of tiny hooked teeth, but you have nothing to worry about with them.

According to the National Geographic, they have absolutely no interest in attacking humans.

The young basking shark had swam next to a harbour wall and beach where the teenagers were having a dip at around 9pm last night.

Did you spot the basking shark?
