A small seaside village has once again been named the UK’s best coastal destination, holding onto the title for the fourth year running.
This pretty spot has managed to beat some of the country’s most famous seaside towns, including those in the South of England that are often thought of as top holiday hotspots.
Loved for its peaceful atmosphere, striking scenery and old-world charm, this tiny village took the crown again, topping more than 120 other towns and villages in the survey.
The overall winner was Bamburgh, a Northumberland gem with just 400 residents.
Each destination was given a score based on a range of factors, including hotel prices, seafront, beaches, scenery, shopping, attractions, peace and quiet, parking, accommodation and value for money.
Which? revealed: “Bamburgh was awarded full five-star ratings for its beach, seafront, scenery, attractions and peaceful setting.
“It also achieved an impressive overall score of 86%. Visitors were blown away by the views of Bamburgh Castle, perched on a rocky clifftop above long stretches of golden sand and windswept dunes.”
Bamburgh has long been admired for its history, with its iconic castle standing 150 feet above the coast. Known as “England’s finest coastal fortress,” it dates back to the 11th century.
Visit Bamburgh notes that the castle was purchased by the First Lord Armstrong in 1894 and is still cared for by the Armstrong family today. The historic site has even appeared on screen as a filming location for the popular Netflix series The Last Kingdom.
The village is also home to a wide, sandy beach that stays remarkably clean and untouched.
The sand stretches for miles, making it a favourite for those who enjoy peaceful walks by the sea.
While the sea here rarely feels warm, even at the height of summer, families still flock to paddle, play in the waves, and enjoy building sandcastles during the warmer months of the year. The Beach Guide praises it as an ideal spot for traditional seaside fun.
Remember - LeaveNoTrace!
As with anywhere outdoors, kindly keep these areas pristine and wild by taking all trash with you. The amount of complaints we have seen since the pandemic is crazy. It's really not that hard to take your rubbish with you!
Litter tends to spread, so if you see any and are able to pick it up and dispose of it outside the hidden gem, it will help keep the area tidy.
