Locals are demanding the removal of 'dangerous' rocks from Devon’s famous beach, warning they could put tourists at risk this summer.
Concerns have been raised that large rocks on this popular Devon beach might pose a danger to visitors and swimmers.
Torquay Council has reportedly dismissed calls from Action for Paignton to clear the rocks from Paignton Sands, despite fears that they could be hazardous during the busy summer months.

This comes after Torbay Council approved a £14 million plan last June to upgrade Paignton’s seafront as part of a coastal defence project.
The beach, known for its beautiful pink sand, draws thousands of visitors and swimmers every year.
Local resident Richard Kaskow said: “I’ve known this beach for over 60 years, and it’s never looked like this before.”
He explained: “The rocks are actually part of the rock armour designed to protect the original sea wall, but they have now surfaced and are becoming more exposed throughout the year.”
“These rocks pose a serious risk to swimmers, especially with steps leading directly into them,” he added.

He also said: “Paignton Beach is what makes this area special, along with the pier and Geoplay Park, so we should make sure it stays that way.”
A spokesperson for Torbay Council responded: “We are aware of the rocks on Paignton Beach. These formations are natural and are usually covered by sand.”
“However, recent severe weather has changed the landscape of the beach slightly, making more of these rocks visible.”
“The rocks are an important part of the beach’s ecosystem, providing a habitat for marine life,” they added.
“We believe that raising awareness about these natural features and encouraging visitors to take care is a more sustainable approach than removing them.”
The planned seafront upgrades will include new seating areas, relocated shelters, kiosks, and cafés, as well as a new entrance at South Green for vehicle access.

As with anywhere outdoors, kindly keep these areas pristine and wild by taking all trash with you. The amount of complaints we have seen since the pandemic is crazy. It's really not that hard to take your rubbish with you!
Litter tends to spread, so if you see any and are able to pick it up and dispose of it outside the hidden gem, it will help keep the area tidy.
