‘Magical’ waterfalls tucked away in a hidden world beside a quaint UK village

Sometimes the most magical places are closer than you realise, and the Peak District is full of pretty towns and villages that anyone who loves the outdoors will enjoy exploring.

Set among the rolling hills of Derbyshire, one of the country’s best known spa towns sits just an hour by car from Derby.

Right on the edge of the Peak District, Buxton is a peaceful getaway with breathtaking scenery to explore and a lovely town centre to stay in while you are there.

Buxton is known as the highest market town in England, and it is famous for its so called healing spa waters.

For hundreds of years, people have travelled here to bathe in and drink the mineral rich water, and that tradition still carries on today.

The water is so clear and fresh that it is bottled straight from the natural springs that run through the rocks. These springs are the source of the well known Buxton water sold in shops across the UK, and it all begins at the historic St Ann’s Well.

Just over two hours on foot from Buxton town centre, or a short drive away, you will find Three Shires Head.

This walking spot marks the point where Derbyshire, Cheshire and Staffordshire meet, and it is known for its lovely waterfalls and clear pools that are perfect for wild swimming.

packhorse bridges, and real peace and quiet. It is a beautiful place for a walk, with views that make you stop and stare. A true breath of fresh air."

The most popular walk in the area is the Solomon’s Temple circular trail, which starts right by Buxton Station.

As you follow the path through Buxton Country Park, you are rewarded with wide countryside views before reaching the top of Grin Low, where the Victorian tower known as Solomon’s Temple stands waiting.

Remember - LeaveNoTrace!

As with anywhere outdoors, kindly keep these areas pristine and wild by taking all trash with you. The amount of complaints we have seen since the pandemic is crazy. It's really not that hard to take your rubbish with you!

Litter tends to spread, so if you see any and are able to pick it up and dispose of it outside the hidden gem, it will help keep the area tidy.
