The coastal village with only 19 houses, no crowds, and a breathtaking beach

The UK has many beautiful seaside towns, but this hidden one is truly special.

With only 19 houses and hardly any tourists, it offers peace, quiet, and a stunning sandy beach for visitors to enjoy in complete tranquillity.

This hidden gem found on Scotland’s north-west coast, is a tiny village blessed with a gorgeous beach and its very own micro-climate thanks to its closeness to the Atlantic Ocean’s Gulf Stream.

Clashnessie Bay has been named one of Britain’s “best secret and remote beaches.”

It stays clean, calm, and quiet throughout the year, making it a perfect spot for anyone looking to relax and unwind on a peaceful staycation.

It’s only a short drive from the popular Achmelvich Bay but offers a far quieter experience, while still matching its breathtaking natural beauty.

Families love visiting Clashnessie too, as the rocky inlet around the beach provides plenty of space for children to play and explore safely.

A short walk along the coastline takes visitors to Clashnessie Falls, a spectacular 15-metre waterfall that tumbles down from the small lochs above, creating a truly magical sight.

Clashnessie is what’s known as a crofting community, a unique Scottish system where residents manage small plots of land called crofts.

Each crofter must look after and make good use of their land, whether for farming or other meaningful work.

This system ensures residents enjoy fair rents, secure tenancies, and recognition for improvements passed down through generations, helping preserve Scotland’s rural traditions.

Clashnessie also sits along the famous North Coast 500 route, a 516-mile scenic drive that circles the north of Scotland, starting and ending at Inverness Castle.

Launched in 2015, the route brings together some of Scotland’s most stunning highlights, from dramatic coastlines and white sandy beaches to rugged mountains and charming fishing villages.

Remember - LeaveNoTrace!

As with anywhere outdoors, kindly keep these areas pristine and wild by taking all trash with you. The amount of complaints we have seen since the pandemic is crazy. It's really not that hard to take your rubbish with you!

Litter tends to spread, so if you see any and are able to pick it up and dispose of it outside the hidden gem, it will help keep the area tidy.
