The overlooked seaside town known for its amazing breakfasts and stunning train station

Just because autumn has arrived doesn’t mean holidays have to come to an end.

Many people in the UK use this time of year to enjoy local trips, with beach destinations remaining a top choice for relaxing staycations.

For anyone who loves the outdoors or wants to enjoy the last bit of sunshine, a visit to one beautiful Scottish bay could be just what you need.

Surprisingly, this Scottish seaside town is a hidden treasure when it comes to romantic getaways.

Parkdean Resorts, a UK holiday expert, looked into the best places for couples to reconnect, and Wemyss Bay stood out above the rest.

Known for its amazing breakfasts and its stunning train station, this historic coastal town truly deserves a spot at the top of your travel list.

Start your visit by arriving at the town’s striking train station, complete with an elegant glass ceiling, and head across the road to a much-loved breakfast café praised by The Times as one of the best in the area.

The café is also home to the award-winning James Pirie & Son Scotch Pie, known as the “best in the world.”

A Times travel writer said: “McCaskie’s is both a café and a butcher, offering one of the best selections of Scottish breakfast classics.

The Big Breakfast, which includes haggis, a potato scone and sliced sausage, is incredible. What makes it even better is that you can buy haggis, Ayrshire bacon and fruit pudding from the attached butcher’s shop to take home.”

Located on Scotland’s west coast, Wemyss Bay sits between Gourock to the north and Largs to the south. Pronounced “weems,” this lovely town is still a bit of a secret to many Glaswegians, even though it’s only about a 50-minute drive away, reports Glasgow Live.

Leading directly to the Isle of Bute, Wemyss Bay takes its name from the Clan Wemyss and was once a bustling holiday destination during the Victorian era.

Visitors can still enjoy a walk along the beautiful Victorian pier, which was restored to its original charm in the early 1990s.

Remember - LeaveNoTrace!

As with anywhere outdoors, kindly keep these areas pristine and wild by taking all trash with you. The amount of complaints we have seen since the pandemic is crazy. It's really not that hard to take your rubbish with you!

Litter tends to spread, so if you see any and are able to pick it up and dispose of it outside the hidden gem, it will help keep the area tidy.
