The stunning coastal town serving up Cornwall’s ‘best fish and chips’

Staycations have become increasingly popular in recent years, and one town in Cornwall has proven itself to be the perfect spot for a relaxing getaway.

Although not a seaside resort like many nearby spots, Truro is just a short distance from some of Cornwall’s most breathtaking beaches, where turquoise waters and soft white sand make you feel like you’re abroad.

Located on Cornwall’s southern edge, Truro has a fascinating history that stretches all the way back to Roman times.

Over 800 years ago, it was just a small market town and port, but it steadily grew into an important centre for trade and tin mining, helping shape the Cornwall we know today.

As the county’s biggest town, Truro has a lively city centre filled with independent shops, welcoming cafés and locally run restaurants.

While you’ll find plenty of familiar high street names, the city’s winding side streets hide a treasure trove of independent boutiques and colourful stores.

Pydar Street, in particular, is a great place to explore if you enjoy browsing unique shops and creative finds.

After wandering around the city, you’re bound to work up an appetite, and Truro just happens to boast one of the best fish and chip shops in the UK.

Kellaway’s, crowned the best in Cornwall at the National Fish and Chip Awards, is a must-visit. Serving golden, crispy chips and freshly caught cod covered in salt and vinegar, it’s the perfect way to round off a day of exploring.
