UK beach branded ‘better than Spain’ named among the world’s most complained about

The beach has split opinions, with some visitors calling it stunning, while others have been left very disappointed.
One of the UK’s most famous seaside spots, which attracts huge crowds whenever the sun comes out, has been ranked among the world’s most complained-about beaches.
A new study by Cloudwards looked at beaches across the globe that receive the most criticism online – and one in Dorset made it into the top ten.
Although many people describe it as “beautiful”, this beach has been rated as one of the most underwhelming in the world.
Researchers analysed TripAdvisor reviews for 200 of the planet’s best-known beaches to find out which locations leave tourists feeling let down.
Bournemouth placed fifth overall, with visitors unhappy about how crowded it gets and the issues with litter.
While it may have a reputation as one of Britain’s top seaside resorts, the findings show it doesn’t always live up to the hype for everyone who visits.
Stretching across seven miles of golden sand, Bournemouth beach becomes packed during the summer months, with travellers flocking in from across the country.
But this popularity is also one of the biggest complaints, with 52% of reviewers pointing to overcrowding as a serious issue.
Cleanliness was another sticking point, with 31% of visitors saying the beach could be much better maintained.
One unhappy holidaymaker shared: “I’ve been to Bournemouth many times and usually enjoy it, but this time I was shocked. I’ve never seen so much rubbish left lying around – food, plates, wrappers, bottles, plastic bags and even towels. It was a real mess.”
They went on to say: “The council needs to step up and clean the beach properly, or start handing out fines to people who leave litter. At the moment, it’s a dump.”
Not everyone agreed, though. Plenty of visitors had only positive things to say, with one tourist calling it “probably the best sandy beach in the UK”.
Another review added: “With the sunshine we had, it honestly felt nicer than Spain. The kids loved swimming and the sea wasn’t too cold. Bournemouth is the perfect seaside break for families – we’ll definitely be back this summer.”
