UK village so perfect that visitors can hardly believe it is not AI generated

Nestled within the Peak District is a small village with a unique past and a wonderful mix of buildings to admire.

The village, as it stands today, was created in the 1830s and is well known for its wide range of architectural styles, including mock Tudor designs and pretty Swiss Cottage style homes.

This hidden gem sits within the famous Chatsworth Park and offers a picture perfect collection of buildings crafted with great care.

The village was commissioned by the 6th Duke of Devonshire, William Cavendish, who chose to completely remove the old estate and rebuild it in the 19th century.

His reason was simple. The original village spoiled his view of the grand Chatsworth House and its beautiful grounds.

The task of redesigning the entire village was handed to Sir Joseph Paxton, the architect best known for creating the famous Crystal Palace.

Legend says that when Paxton showed the Duke several architectural styles, the Duke told him to choose one of each, which is why the village looks so wonderfully varied today.

This colourful blend of styles can be seen in Edensor’s key buildings, including St Peter’s Church, which stands proudly with its graceful spire. Inside, you will find monuments to the Cavendish family, whose graves still lie in the churchyard.

A recent visitor wrote on TripAdvisor: “If AI was asked to generate the perfect English village, it would be Edensor. It is so lovely it did not seem real at times.

At one point a pheasant walked in front of us, and small curious birds landed on a wall nearby. It felt like a scene from Disney’s Snow White!”

In the heart of the village is the charming Edensor Tea Cottage, once the local post office, which welcomes visitors daily throughout the year. It now serves breakfast, coffee, lunch and afternoon tea, giving travellers a cosy place to rest and enjoy a treat.

Thinking back on the church, one visitor said: “Edensor is a lovely village with interesting architecture, so lovely to walk around.

We enjoyed visiting the graves of the Devonshire family at the top of the churchyard and found peace and time for reflection inside the church.”

Remember - LeaveNoTrace!

As with anywhere outdoors, kindly keep these areas pristine and wild by taking all trash with you. The amount of complaints we have seen since the pandemic is crazy. It's really not that hard to take your rubbish with you!

Litter tends to spread, so if you see any and are able to pick it up and dispose of it outside the hidden gem, it will help keep the area tidy.
