This hidden beach in west Wales boasts miles of uninterrupted sand and plenty of surprises.
With eight miles of golden sand, this "hidden gem" has been compared to some of the best beaches in Europe and even the USA.
This hidden gem, located in Pembrey, Carmarthenshire, is one of Wales’ longest and most stunning beaches.
Stretching across eight miles, it offers soft sands and breathtaking views of the Bristol Channel. Some have even likened it to California’s famous Golden Coast, according to Pembrey Country Park and Beach.
Cefn Sidan was the first beach in Wales to earn the prestigious Blue Flag award. It’s part of Pembrey Country Park, making it ideal for nature enthusiasts with its nearby woodlands, sand dunes, and coastal paths perfect for hiking, cycling, or relaxing strolls.
West Wales Holiday Cottages has called it one of "Europe’s best beaches," and with its incredible views, it’s easy to see why.
Its gently sloping sands and shallow waters make Cefn Sidan perfect for paddling and beachcombing, making it a great spot for family outings or romantic walks.
It’s also a fantastic place for taking pictures, whether you’re snapping seaside selfies or capturing the scenic landscapes. Don’t forget your camera if you visit!
The name Cefn Sidan translates to "silken back," likely referring to its smooth, fine sand, which is perfect for long walks or simply soaking up the sun.
The sheer size of the beach is striking as soon as you arrive. It’s so vast that planes have landed there before, like the Royal Air Force Lockheed C-130J 'Super Hercules' that performed tactical landings and take-offs on this public beach.
But Cefn Sidan isn’t just a place of beauty. It’s steeped in history, with remnants of shipwrecks scattered along its shore, adding an intriguing element to its charm.
These shipwrecks, some centuries old, serve as a reminder of the area’s maritime history and add a sense of mystery to the beach, attracting visitors eager to photograph them.
Remember - LeaveNoTrace!
As with anywhere outdoors, kindly keep these areas pristine and wild by taking all trash with you. The amount of complaints we have seen since the pandemic is crazy. It's really not that hard to take your rubbish with you!
Litter tends to spread, so if you see any and are able to pick it up and dispose of it outside the hidden gem, it will help keep the area tidy.
