Beautiful secret UK beach that ‘looks like Bali’ and is only reachable twice a day

A peaceful Cornish beach has been described as a hidden paradise, with some comparing it to the shores of Indonesia.

Found on the eastern side of Porthcurno Cove, this secret spot is famous for its dazzling turquoise waters and soft white sand, often said to look more like Bali than Britain.

As stunning as it is, this magical scene only appears for a few hours each day before the tide swallows it again.

Loved by walkers, explorers and even naturists, the beach completely disappears at high tide.

Once a well-kept local secret, Pedn Vounder is now one of Cornwall’s most photographed beaches and has twice been listed among the best in the world.

Alongside iconic places such as Turquoise Bay in Australia and Secret Lagoon in the Philippines, it made the annual “50 Best Beaches in the World” list.

Rankings are based on media coverage, Blue Flag status, social media popularity and input from the Big 7 Travel team, giving Pedn Vounder its impressive title.

Reaching the beach is not easy and calls for sturdy footwear, careful planning and awareness of tide times.

But for many, the reward of white sand and turquoise sea is worth every step. The beach is also known for being naturist-friendly, so visitors may spot nude bathers during the summer months.

To the east stands Logan Rock, a famous 70-ton granite boulder that can be rocked with just one person’s push.

The area also appeared in the TV drama “Poldark,” where it was shown as Nampara Cove in a dream sequence.

Nearby lies the charming village of Porthcurno. Once central to global communication as home to the Eastern Telegraph Company’s cable station, it connected Britain to much of the world.

Today, visitors can discover its history at the Telegraph Museum and enjoy performances at the clifftop Minack Theatre with its spectacular ocean backdrop.

Visitors have fallen in love with Pedn Vounder, giving it an impressive 4.6 out of five stars on Tripadvisor. One reviewer said: “This beach cove is truly stunning, with crystal-clear turquoise water. You would never believe it was in the UK!”

Another added: “Anyone saying this place is not amazing is wrong. The walk down is tricky and you must be careful, but it could be the best bathing beach in the world!”

Remember - LeaveNoTrace!

As with anywhere outdoors, kindly keep these areas pristine and wild by taking all trash with you. The amount of complaints we have seen since the pandemic is crazy. It's really not that hard to take your rubbish with you!

Litter tends to spread, so if you see any and are able to pick it up and dispose of it outside the hidden gem, it will help keep the area tidy.
