The charming seaside town seen as ‘classier’ than the rest and home to the ‘UK’s best beach

There is a small seaside town on the Yorkshire coast that is becoming more popular, not because it is overrun with tourists, but because of its beauty, calm atmosphere and charm.

Found between Scarborough and Bridlington, this hidden gem has become a must-visit.

Its long five-mile beach was recently named the best in North Yorkshire by TripAdvisor users, beating Scarborough Beach, Whitby Beach and Cayton Bay.

The huge sandy stretch is perfect for people wanting peace, seaside walks or simply a break by the sea without the crowds.

isitors will find everything from beach huts and friendly cafés to small kiosks selling snacks and drinks, all in a relaxed and natural setting.

Shaded, tree-lined paths lead down towards the sand and add to the appeal.

For those who enjoy a hike, Filey Beach links up with the famous Cleveland Way coastal path and gives amazing views across the rocky Filey Brigg headland.

The beach continues all the way to Bempton in the south, close to the RSPB bird reserve, which is loved by birdwatchers.

The Beach Guide says one of Filey’s biggest attractions is its simplicity. It has been described as “less commercial” than many of the other East Coast resorts, making it perfect for families or anyone who prefers a slower pace.

From long walks and kite flying to sandcastle building or even horse riding, there is plenty of space for everyone on Filey’s five miles of golden sand.

When the tide goes out, a quarter of a mile of sand is revealed. Rock pools full of sea creatures also appear, giving younger visitors a chance to explore and discover.

Helen, a visitor from Driffield, shared her review on TripAdvisor: “Filey has one of the best beaches on this coast in my view. Today we went down to Coble Landing to reach the beach that way.”

She added: “This stretch is used by dog walkers, surfers, fishermen and families. There are plenty of cafés, bars, restaurants and shops for holidaymakers, selling everything from buckets and spades to meals and treats. It is perfect for a day at the beach.”

As well as being loved for its beach, Filey has also been described as “much classier” than other UK seaside towns, making it a hidden gem on the Yorkshire coast.

Remember - LeaveNoTrace!

As with anywhere outdoors, kindly keep these areas pristine and wild by taking all trash with you. The amount of complaints we have seen since the pandemic is crazy. It's really not that hard to take your rubbish with you!

Litter tends to spread, so if you see any and are able to pick it up and dispose of it outside the hidden gem, it will help keep the area tidy.
