Cameras have been set up near a beautiful waterfall in the Lake District after reports of people using drugs in the area.
South Lakes Police shared on Facebook: “We’ve received complaints from Rydal Hall about people taking drugs by the waterfall.
“This is a place for everyone to enjoy, and this kind of behaviour won’t be tolerated.
“Cameras are being installed, and your local police team will be keeping an eye on the area.”
The Grot at Rydal Falls, where the cameras are being installed, was famously mentioned in William Wordsworth’s poem, An Evening Walk, published in 1793.
Rydal Grot Falls, found in the heart of the Lake District, is a stunning spot that blends natural beauty with historic charm.
Close to the village of Rydal, the waterfall flows through lush greenery and over rocky terrain, creating a peaceful and magical atmosphere.
The falls are part of the grounds of Rydal Hall, a historic estate with beautifully maintained gardens and walking trails that offer amazing views of the surrounding area.
A special feature of Rydal Grot Falls is the small grotto built nearby in the 17th century.
This charming stone structure was designed as a place to view the waterfall and still offers visitors a lovely spot to sit and enjoy the scenery.
The soothing sound of the water and the framed view from the grotto’s arched windows make it a perfect spot to admire this natural treasure.
Remember - LeaveNoTrace!
As with anywhere outdoors, kindly keep these areas pristine and wild by taking all trash with you. The amount of complaints we have seen since the pandemic is crazy. It's really not that hard to take your rubbish with you!
Litter tends to spread, so if you see any and are able to pick it up and dispose of it outside the hidden gem, it will help keep the area tidy.
