Charming village in ‘UK’s St Tropez’ crowned Britain’s best sunrise spot with stunning views

One charming UK village has been crowned the best place in Britain to watch the sunrise, with breathtaking views across rolling countryside.

A picturesque spot in Cornwall, often called the UK’s very own St Tropez, has officially been named the best sunrise location in the country.

Cornwall itself has long been compared to the glamorous French Riviera, thanks to its stunning beaches, celebrity visitors and dramatic coastal scenery.

The village of St Minver is home to the famous Rough Tor, now recognised as the top sunrise spot in the UK.

Offering sweeping views across the Cornish landscape, the trail is a perfect place to watch the sun come up, especially during the solstice.

Visitors to Rough Tor have shared glowing reviews on Tripadvisor. One wrote: “Walked up to Roughtor with my husband and teenage daughter. Gorgeous scenery and a simple climb to the top. The views were incredible. Make sure to wear decent walking shoes.”

Another reviewer said: “Bodmin Moor is one of the most magical places on Earth. So wild and beautiful. I’ve told my family I want my ashes scattered from the top so I can rest with Cornwall’s beauty forever.”

The third added: “The walk to the summit is lovely and the views are amazing when the sky is clear. Definitely check the weather first though, as the mist can roll in fast.”

Rough Tor isn’t the only spot worth setting your alarm for. Holiday experts at Parkdean Resorts have also revealed other top sunrise locations across the UK, with Queen’s View in Scotland coming in second place.

Describing Queen’s View, they said: “This famous Highland lookout delivers breathtaking views over Loch Tummel, especially in the soft light of sunrise.”

The top five sunrise destinations were listed as: Rough Tor in Cornwall, Queen’s View in Scotland, Hound Tor in Devon, Orrest Head in the Lake District, and Cleveland Way in Yorkshire.

If you’re planning to catch a sunrise, make sure to check the exact times for where you are, so you don’t miss the magic. Even in summer, the mornings can feel chilly, so pack warm clothes and be prepared.

Remember - LeaveNoTrace!

As with anywhere outdoors, kindly keep these areas pristine and wild by taking all trash with you. The amount of complaints we have seen since the pandemic is crazy. It's really not that hard to take your rubbish with you!

Litter tends to spread, so if you see any and are able to pick it up and dispose of it outside the hidden gem, it will help keep the area tidy.
