Cornwall is home to two of the UK’s top spots for a peaceful escape

Getting lost has never sounded so exciting. As more people look for “off-the-beaten-path” places, two spots in Cornwall have been named among the best in the UK to explore and wander.

A new study has found the top places for a fun detour this spring, looking at things like local attractions, weather, and even how many petrol stations are nearby. Newquay in Cornwall came out on top as the best UK town for a detour.

The research, done by SIXT, looked at how many things there are to do, average temperatures, and how often the place is mentioned in staycation articles on Google. Newquay came first, with Bude right behind it.

Searches for “accommodation Newquay” in the UK have gone up by a massive 646% over the past year, showing that more and more people want to visit.

Newquay has been featured in 191 staycation articles on Google in the last six months alone – proving it’s becoming a popular choice for holidaymakers heading to Cornwall.

There are over 119 fun things to do in Newquay, including three National Trust sites like Trerice, a grand Elizabethan house, and Crantock Beach – making it a great stop on any road trip.

While it may be a little cool, with spring and summer temperatures averaging 16.2°C, the town makes up for it with a sea temperature of around 14.4°C – great for brave swimmers!

If you’d rather stay dry and warm, Newquay is also a fantastic place for stargazing. It has a night sky brightness score of 20.76 mag/arcsec², which means you can spot bright stars and constellations during your stay.
