‘Cosy’ seaside pub with crackling fires and ocean views, but there’s a twist

Tucked away in the pretty village of Porthdinllaen in Gwynedd, Wales, this much-loved pub with “amazing character” is the perfect place to stop for a drink or meal, that is, if visitors can actually find it.

Set on the north coast of the Llŷn Peninsula, this hidden gem is a charming pub known for its “cosy feel” and stunning seaside views.

You can sit inside by the fire and still hear the sound of waves just outside. The sandy beach is right at its doorstep, making it an ideal spot for relaxing in the sun or warming up after a refreshing winter walk.

But here’s the twist. The pub can only be reached on foot, as only locals are allowed to drive there. Visitors need to park in the National Trust or Golf Club car parks nearby, both of which charge a small fee.

The walk takes around 20 minutes across the golf course, which the pub is part of.

To make it even more intriguing, Ty Coch Inn doesn’t take any bookings or reservations, as clearly stated on its website. So visitors simply turn up and hope to grab a spot to enjoy its old-fashioned charm.

One happy TripAdvisor reviewer shared: “Walked an hour along the coastal path from Nefyn to Ty Coch Porthdinllaen this afternoon – a busy pub with brilliant character and great value food.

The staff were friendly, the music from the Wee Celtic Band was fantastic, and the whole place had a lovely atmosphere. This spot is so beautiful – definitely worth a visit when on the Llŷn Peninsula.”

Another reviewer added: “Fantastic location with beach views. The service was quick, the food was tasty, and I’d highly recommend it to anyone visiting the area.”

A third visitor described the pub as a “hidden gem” they would love to visit again. They wrote: “If you enjoy something a bit quirky and tucked away, with a breathtaking location, this is the place for you.

It’s hidden from sight and takes a breezy walk from the golf club to reach, but it’s well worth it once you see the secluded bay.”

They also described the inside as “traditional” with an “interesting mix of lamps” hanging from the ceiling that make it feel wonderfully “cosy”. And when it comes to its surroundings, there’s no doubt this seaside pub is set in one of the most beautiful spots in Wales.

Remember - LeaveNoTrace!

As with anywhere outdoors, kindly keep these areas pristine and wild by taking all trash with you. The amount of complaints we have seen since the pandemic is crazy. It's really not that hard to take your rubbish with you!

Litter tends to spread, so if you see any and are able to pick it up and dispose of it outside the hidden gem, it will help keep the area tidy.
