Enchanting Christmas market with over 100 stalls set to return to UK city this weekend

A UK Christmas market that could easily rival Germany’s famous festive fairs is set to return this weekend, and it will run for just over seven weeks.

Kicking off on Saturday, November 1, this much-loved market will bring sparkling lights, Christmas trees and the smell of delicious food to the city centre, including authentic Frankfurt-style sausages and other festive treats.

More than 100 stalls will fill Victoria Square for this Frankfurt Christmas Market, turning the area into a winter wonderland packed with “something for everyone”.

A favourite among both locals and visitors, the market promises to “tempt your tastebuds” with hearty German classics such as schnitzels, bratwursts, pretzels and roasted almonds.

There will also be live music and plenty of gift stalls stretching from the square along New Street, sure to fill everyone with festive cheer.

The Visit Birmingham website described the event by saying: “Birmingham comes alive every winter with the arrival of the market, a clear sign that Christmas is just around the corner. The stalls on Victoria Square and along New Street offer something for everyone.”

It added: “As the largest authentic German Christmas market outside Germany or Austria, Birmingham’s Frankfurt Christmas Market features a huge range of traditional goods, handmade gifts and mouth-watering food and drink.”

“Pretzels, schnitzels, bratwursts and roasted almonds will tempt your tastebuds, all of which can be enjoyed with a steaming cup of glühwein, a glass of weissbier, or a rich hot chocolate.”

Visit Birmingham also highlighted that the Frankfurt Christmas Market is a wonderful place to meet up with family and friends and “enjoy the live music programme on Victoria Square”.

Visitors will find “presents for your family and friends” in a cosy festive setting, with traders selling “everything from hand-carved wooden decorations and delicate glass baubles to twinkling crystal lamps, Sounds of Nature, handmade leather goods, toys and jewellery”.

Last year, the market was described as a “joyful winter wonderland” that transforms Birmingham into a city bursting with “festive magic”.

One happy visitor wrote on TripAdvisor in December 2024: “From the moment you arrive, you’re greeted by the smell of bratwurst, roasted nuts and mulled wine.

The market stalls are full of charm, selling beautiful handcrafted gifts, ornaments and traditional treats, perfect for stocking fillers or little souvenirs.”

Remember - LeaveNoTrace!

As with anywhere outdoors, kindly keep these areas pristine and wild by taking all trash with you. The amount of complaints we have seen since the pandemic is crazy. It's really not that hard to take your rubbish with you!

Litter tends to spread, so if you see any and are able to pick it up and dispose of it outside the hidden gem, it will help keep the area tidy.
