A charming village in the Southwest of England has been praised as idyllic and even called the most beautiful in the country.
Hidden in a leafy Cotswold valley, this little gem is a perfect winter escape, offering a magical atmosphere filled with medieval history and stunning old buildings.
With origins going back to the 12th century, Castle Combe’s story is firmly rooted in the Middle Ages, rich with historic tales and local legends.
According to a visitor’s guide from The Crown Inn pub, the village has become a much loved spot for people travelling from far and wide.
Information shared by The Crown Inn, as reported by The Express, confirms that this lovely village has grown into a favourite destination for visitors from all around the world.
Alongside its long and fascinating past, Castle Combe is also a popular filming location, appearing in War Horse, Doctor Dolittle, Stardust and The Wolf Man.
Often chosen for period dramas and historical films, Castle Combe is known for its honey coloured houses made from local stone, which remain some of its most recognisable and charming features.
The village was once famous for producing a special red and white fabric called Castlecombe, which was highly sought after in markets across Bristol, Cirencester, London and even overseas.
In the 15th century, King Henry VI granted Castle Combe the right to hold a weekly market, and the old Market Cross still stands proudly today.
As a historic village, it is no surprise that Castle Combe works hard to protect its beautiful appearance.
This includes a strict ban on modern additions like TV dishes and external wires on the outside of houses, rules that help preserve the authentic look of this timeless place.
The village church is also home to a rare faceless clock, believed to be one of the oldest working clocks in the entire country.
Remember - LeaveNoTrace!
As with anywhere outdoors, kindly keep these areas pristine and wild by taking all trash with you. The amount of complaints we have seen since the pandemic is crazy. It's really not that hard to take your rubbish with you!
Litter tends to spread, so if you see any and are able to pick it up and dispose of it outside the hidden gem, it will help keep the area tidy.
