‘Idyllic’ beach with golden sands and warm waters hailed as “heaven on earth”

The bay has been compared to a Mediterranean holiday spot and is loved by foodies for its coffee shops and ice cream stalls.

Step onto the golden sands of this hidden gem in Kent and you could easily think you’re abroad.

With its sweeping curve of beach, colourful fishing boats bobbing in the water and bright parasols dotted around, this lively spot is a top choice for a seaside getaway.

Right in the centre of Broadstairs in Thanet, the bay is known for its growing food scene that’s perfect for anyone who loves to eat out, with brilliant coffee and plenty of local restaurants.

Just a short walk up from the beach you’ll find cafes, bars and historic buildings.

To make a day at the seaside even better, Viking Bay also has sunbeds and parasols for hire, plus showers to rinse off the sand before heading home.

Visitors have left glowing reviews, with one saying: “If heaven was on earth, maybe Broadstairs is just that place.

Friendly people, miles of golden sands and so clean. Holiday in the UK and come here, it’s amazing,” reports Kent Live.

There’s no shortage of things to do here, from the little pier stretching into the water and the busy harbour to cliff-top walks, a wooden boardwalk and even Punch and Judy shows for all the family.

One happy Tripadvisor reviewer wrote: “The best seaside town on the Kent coast. The beach is stunning. The rock pool is a big plus. There is a wonderful coffee shop on the beach in the arch. Perfect British beach!”

The sand itself is soft and ideal for building sandcastles, making it a big hit with families.

Behind the beach, you’ll find rows of pretty seaside houses, the famous white cliffs that line this part of Kent, and lots of places to eat, from classic fish and chips to other tasty treats that make the perfect end to a beach day.
