Magical hidden UK village that looks just like a real-life fairy tale

In this charming village, every corner feels special. From its red-roofed cottages to the much-loved sheep fair, there’s a sense of magic all around.

Walking through the quiet but beautiful streets of this hidden gem feels like stepping straight into the pages of an old fairy tale.

With only about 400 residents, this little village in the Ryedale district of Yorkshire is a hidden treasure. It sits close to the Tabular Hills and is only 25 miles away from York.

Perched along the River Dove and set within the stunning North York Moors National Park, Hutton-le-Hole is famous for its pretty cottages, flowing stream and sheep that wander freely through the village.

The mix of stone cottages, a classic village green and peaceful scenery leaves many visitors amazed by its beauty.

Even though it’s small, Hutton-le-Hole welcomes many tourists each year. People come to enjoy its festivals and traditions, such as the annual sheep fair, May Day celebrations and festive Christmas markets.

For such a tiny place, there’s a lot to do. Visitors can go hiking, cycling or fishing, as well as explore the village’s 29 listed buildings, enjoy cosy tea rooms, or browse gift shops.

One of the highlights is the Ryedale Folk Museum. This open-air museum shares the history of local life over the centuries and is considered a must-visit attraction.

One visitor praised it on Tripadvisor, writing: “A great range of displays and really interesting. It takes about 90 minutes to explore.”

They added: “The highlight for me was the unusual old photographic studio, with large windows for natural light and a sunlight-powered enlarger. The village of Hutton-le-Hole itself is incredibly pretty too.”
