Magical waterfall walk near Liverpool that’s perfect for a family day out

With autumn on the way, now is the perfect time to make the most of the clear skies and mild weather.

If you’re keen to escape the city and try somewhere new, there’s a magical waterfall trail not far from Liverpool that has been loved by families for years.

The falls are around an hour and a half’s drive from Liverpool city centre, and it’s one of Eryri’s most dramatic waterfalls. Found at the northern edge of the Carneddau, the falls are part of the Afon Goch river.

To reach the waterfall, visitors follow a three-mile trail through native woodland. The walk is fairly easy and takes around an hour and 45 minutes to complete.

The main waterfall is formed as the Afon Goch plunges 120 feet over a ledge of volcanic rock.

The path itself is gentle with only a few short uphill climbs. On a sunny day the views are incredible, and that’s before you even reach the falls.

As you approach, the sound of rushing water gets louder and you can catch glimpses of the cascade ahead. But the full view of Aber Falls is truly breathtaking when it comes into sight.

This enchanting spot is a must-see, and walkers can get right up close to the water for perfect photos. The falls are so beautiful they’ve even become a popular place for marriage proposals.

If you want to extend your day out, you can loop back on the North Wales Path, which takes you around the top of the valley before returning to the village.

Alternatively, just a five-minute drive away is Traeth Llanfairfechan Beach. This quiet beach is surrounded by rolling green hills, with very few crowds. It’s the perfect place to grab an ice cream and enjoy a peaceful seaside stroll.
