Under the care of the National Trust, this charming fishing village on the Northumberland coast offers plenty for anyone seeking a break surrounded by nature.
This hidden gem has a gorgeous sweep of sandy beach curving around the village, lined with pretty cream coloured cottages.
Outside the busy holiday months, visitors can enjoy peaceful, quiet shores, and even in summer it remains a fairly hidden spot with a calm and gentle atmosphere.
For those who love the water, the beach is a brilliant place for windsurfers and great fun to watch from the shore.
There are also several tidal pools where children can hunt for crabs or splash about in the shallows.
Standing proudly in the distance are the dramatic ruins of Dunstanburgh Castle. Although this 14th century fortress sits in Alnwick, it overlooks the coastline and makes a striking backdrop along the wide sandy stretch of Embleton Bay.
One TripAdvisor reviewer shared their experience, saying: “Stunning beach and usually very quiet. It’s the perfect place to walk your dog and let them off the lead to run for miles and swim if they can handle the cold water.”
Even though the village is small, it has a lot to offer, especially for those who enjoy local food and drink.
Low Newton is home to a well loved microbrewery in the village centre, based at The Ship Inn, where visitors can enjoy a drink while looking out across the rolling waves.
At the heart of the village, this pub is known across the area for its seaside setting and generous portions at reasonable prices.
With a cosy, traditional interior and a friendly feel, it attracts both locals and holidaymakers looking for a relaxing break during their coastal walks.
One guest said: “Small but perfectly formed! This is a great place. Small menu but all freshly prepared. Good choice of beers from their own microbrewery. The perfect stop before a walk along the beach.”
Another visitor added: “We walked here twice to enjoy the crab sandwiches, cheese and crab ploughman’s and home brewed beer. The pub is in a lovely spot and is ideal to reach by walking along the beautiful Northumberland coast.”

As with anywhere outdoors, kindly keep these areas pristine and wild by taking all trash with you. The amount of complaints we have seen since the pandemic is crazy. It's really not that hard to take your rubbish with you!
Litter tends to spread, so if you see any and are able to pick it up and dispose of it outside the hidden gem, it will help keep the area tidy.
