Scenic fishing village with twisty streets praised for serving truly delicious fish and chips

A beautiful fishing village in Cornwall with a classic chip shop has been winning praise for its delicious meals, with one visitor even calling it the “best fish and chip shop in the country”.
Found in North Cornwall, this place is easy to spot thanks to its scenic harbour and pretty narrow streets.
It also has a special claim to fame for TV fans, as viewers of Doc Martin will recognise it as the fictional village of Port Wenn.
Visit Cornwall explains: “Port Isaac is a quintessential Cornish fishing village, known for its narrow, winding streets lined with charming whitewashed cottages that overlook a picturesque harbour, locally referred to as the Platt.
Since 2004, it has gained fame as the fictional village of Port Wenn in the BBC series Doc Martin.”
However, the village recently went viral for a different reason when TikTok user @fredtoktik visited and tried a meal from Port Isaac Fish & Chips. He told his followers: “I think I’ve found the best fish and chip shop in the country and most certainly all of Cornwall.”
Fred said: “This is Port Isaac Fish & Chips, located in a small fishing village on the Atlantic coast of North Cornwall.
This was a no-nonsense establishment, so I’m gonna give a no-nonsense review. Battered sausage, fish and chips, tartare sauce, idyllic waters. What could go wrong? That’s right, absolutely nothing.”
He added: “The batter was crispy, the fish was flaky, the chips had a lovely combination of soft and crunchy, and the tartare sauce was unreal. I’ve never had anything like it. It was so fresh. I just loved it.”
“Genuinely, there was nothing to fault here. The prices are reasonable and everything was locally sourced. If you’re ever in the North Cornwall area, definitely check out Port Isaac for the fish and chips.”
Located on Fore Street, the traditional chip shop has also earned glowing reviews on Facebook, reports Cornwall Live. One customer wrote: “Absolutely amazing food from here tonight, everything was delicious and piping hot.”
Another fan said: “We ordered here last night and what an amazing meal we had! Everything was perfect, the onion rings were out of this world and the chips, absolutely delicious!
We will be ordering again asap and would definitely 100% recommend! Well done Tyler, fantastic fish and chips!”
