A pretty little village in the North of England has been described as a hidden gem by those who visit.
This hidden gem is a small village in North Yorkshire, around seven miles north west of Pickering, and set within the North York Moors National Park.
But despite the French sounding ‘le’ in its name, estate agent Laurence Tremayne said “you can’t get more English” than this North Yorkshire spot.
The peaceful village has sweet red roofed stone cottages, a gentle stream running through it and sheep that wander freely along the streets.
Hutton le Hole even hosts an annual sheep fair that draws visitors from across the region.
There is a pub, a tearoom and a few small shops selling local crafts and souvenirs.
It is also a popular filming location and has appeared in several films and TV shows, including Crusoe, Death Comes to Pemberley and Nandor Fodor and the Talking Mongoose.
Hutton le Hole features in the “20 most beautiful villages in the UK and Ireland” list by Condé Nast Traveller and is loved by tourists for its charm.
The magazine’s glowing review said: “Plant yourself on the grass in the centre of the village with a picnic and paddle in the stream, and when the heavens open, hibernate in one of its tea shops for a hearty slice of cake.”
There is a large pay and display car park at the north end of the village.
The National Park Authority recommends visiting the Hutton le Hole Craft Workshops and the Ryedale Folk Museum, followed by a two mile walk to Lastingham and its ancient church, St Mary’s.
Ryedale Folk Museum celebrates the history and traditions of the area. Visitors can step inside a range of old buildings, including a blacksmith’s forge, a thatched cottage and a Victorian schoolroom.
Another place that might tempt tourists is the Chocolate Factory, where you can buy tasty gifts for yourself or loved ones while watching the chocolate being made.
Beyond this lovely village, a network of walking paths leads keen explorers onto the dramatic Yorkshire Moors, where the purple heather creates a magical landscape for anyone hiking or wandering across this stunning national treasure.
Remember - LeaveNoTrace!
As with anywhere outdoors, kindly keep these areas pristine and wild by taking all trash with you. The amount of complaints we have seen since the pandemic is crazy. It's really not that hard to take your rubbish with you!
Litter tends to spread, so if you see any and are able to pick it up and dispose of it outside the hidden gem, it will help keep the area tidy.
