Festive breaks are always popular in the UK as the year comes to an end. People often think of visiting famous Christmas markets in places like Bath, London, Oxford, Edinburgh or York.
These historic cities are full of festive lights and atmosphere, and it’s easy to see why they’re so loved.
But if you’re after something a little calmer and just as magical, this place is a great choice. This historic city offers a peaceful winter escape filled with charm, cosy corners and a warm welcome.
Experts at StressFreeCarRental.com even named Norwich one of the top UK staycation destinations for 2024.
John Charnock, the company’s CEO, said: “As the nights get longer and the weather turns cold, it’s natural that many people start to feel a bit low during this time of year.” Norwich stands out because it’s the only city in Britain that sits within a national park.
John added: “The beautiful Broads National Park has miles of walking paths where visitors can enjoy nature and stay active. Norwich is the perfect place to reconnect with the outdoors and enjoy some ecotherapy.”
The city’s most famous landmark is Norwich Cathedral, a stunning medieval masterpiece that continues to attract visitors from all over the world.
One visitor wrote on TripAdvisor: “Norwich Cathedral is a wonderful building we’d always meant to visit.
Over the years, we’ve been to many cathedrals across the UK and Europe, but never our local one. After more than 75 years, we finally did. We had coffee in the lovely modern café, and it made for a really enjoyable afternoon.”
Another said: “This is an amazing place to visit for any reason, even if you’re not religious.
You can light a candle for someone special, sing a hymn, admire the stunning architecture or just take a moment to reflect. There are also great family events in the summer holidays to keep the kids entertained.”
Remember - LeaveNoTrace!
As with anywhere outdoors, kindly keep these areas pristine and wild by taking all trash with you. The amount of complaints we have seen since the pandemic is crazy. It's really not that hard to take your rubbish with you!
Litter tends to spread, so if you see any and are able to pick it up and dispose of it outside the hidden gem, it will help keep the area tidy.
