It’s that time of year again when streets and parks across the country become covered in a blanket of autumn colours, from deep reds to bright oranges and glowing golds.
This year, fans of “leaf peeping” are in for a treat, as the UK is expecting a truly stunning display and has plenty of perfect spots for an autumn getaway surrounded by nature’s best colours.
One pretty English market town sits right in the middle of one of the country’s top autumn destinations.
Forestry England has predicted an “early and vibrant colour display” that will last right through November.
Thanks to a warm and sunny summer, trees have produced more sugar in their leaves, meaning this year’s colours will be brighter and more dramatic than usual.
And where better to enjoy all that autumn beauty? The delightful town of Bakewell, of course.
According to GroupAccommodation.com, Derbyshire, in the Peak District, is the most popular place in the UK for an autumn break.
As well as being home to the stunning national park, it also boasts the charming town of Bakewell, famously named after the traditional English dessert.
In this old market town with its cosy tea rooms, visitors can enjoy plenty of delicious Bakewell tarts made with almond paste and pastry, while strolling past mellow stone buildings, quiet courtyards and trees bursting with autumn colour.
Set beside the River Wye in the Derbyshire White Peak, Bakewell is the largest town in the Peak District. Surrounded by rolling countryside, it hosts a traditional weekly market and features a beautiful five-arched bridge that dates back to Roman times.
Visitors are encouraged to take the scenic Bakewell to Chatsworth walk, which leads through peaceful woodland and across the meadows of the Chatsworth Estate.
Travel blogger Explore With Ed recommends Chatsworth House and Gardens as one of the best spots in the UK to see autumn leaves. The grand 16th-century home is still the residence of the Duke and Duchess of Devonshire.
Remember - LeaveNoTrace!
As with anywhere outdoors, kindly keep these areas pristine and wild by taking all trash with you. The amount of complaints we have seen since the pandemic is crazy. It's really not that hard to take your rubbish with you!
Litter tends to spread, so if you see any and are able to pick it up and dispose of it outside the hidden gem, it will help keep the area tidy.
