There’s a waterfall in the UK that people say has “magical powers”, and its waters even appear to run red.
Britain is packed with natural wonders, and one of the most unusual can be found in Scotland at this hidden location...
The spot sits close to Loch Lomond Waterfront, and although many believe it’s a waterfall, that’s not quite true.
The Devil’s Pulpit is actually a large, mushroom-shaped rock rising from the riverbed below a small cascade.
The gorge itself is called Finnich Glen, but most people know the whole area by the name Devil’s Pulpit.
The red colour comes from sandstone in the riverbed, which gives the water its strange, blood-like hue.
According to legend, the devil would stand on the pulpit rock to address his followers as the red waters swirled below.
Stories also suggest the Druids once used the gorge for secret meetings and rituals many centuries ago.
Whatever its true past, today the Devil’s Pulpit is a striking place that draws visitors year after year.
Set deep at the bottom of a gorge, it can be reached – but only with care and the right footwear. The path down is known as the Devil’s Steps, or Jacob’s Ladder, and it is steep, narrow, and slippery.
Shoes with good grip are essential, and it’s best to attempt the descent on a dry day. There are ropes in place to help, though they aren’t regularly checked or maintained.
Those unsure about the climb can join one of the guided tours that safely lead visitors into the gorge.
The Devil’s Pulpit has glowing reviews on TripAdvisor, with many calling it one of Scotland’s most unique attractions.
One visitor wrote: “I had the most enchanting experience at the Devil’s Pulpit during an early morning dip with friends. The mystical greenery and red waters made it feel like another world.”

Litter tends to spread, so if you see any and are able to pick it up and dispose of it outside the hidden gem, it will help keep the area tidy.
