A refreshing climb up a mountain is becoming very popular with Brits this December, and there is no need to fly off to the Alps to enjoy it.
One mountain in particular has become so well loved that people are now lining up to take selfies at the top.
Searches for this mountain have risen by 180 percent compared with this time last month, according to new figures from AI SEO agency IMSR.
Interest in the highest peak in Wales has grown quickly after TimeOut listed it as one of the top ten hikes in the world.
Once seen as a distant Welsh giant filled with myths and old stories, it is now an easy day out for keen hikers and relaxed countryside walkers.
On busy days, queues of up to 45 minutes have been reported for a photo at the summit.
There are six main routes to the top, including Pyg Track, Miner’s Track and the more challenging Crib Goch, which is known for its narrow ridge and is recommended only for experienced scramblers who are not afraid of heights.
Since 2012, the National Park Authority has used the Welsh name Yr Wyddfa, meaning the tumulus, although many visitors still call it by the English name Snowdon.
The mountain has even become a training spot for boxers, according to Minotaur Fight Store.
Its coaches climb nearly every weekend with their athletes and say that Llanberis Path is the best choice for beginners. The route is well kept, has a gentle slope and is clearly marked.
Even so, walkers should wear sturdy footwear and warm clothing. It still requires a fair level of fitness and usually takes between five and a half and eight hours to finish.
Weather conditions and visibility can change suddenly, so it is important to check the forecast before you set out.
For anyone who cannot manage the climb, or simply wants to admire the deep blue lakes and sweeping views without the effort, the Snowdon Mountain Railway also takes visitors right up to the summit.
Remember - LeaveNoTrace!
As with anywhere outdoors, kindly keep these areas pristine and wild by taking all trash with you. The amount of complaints we have seen since the pandemic is crazy. It's really not that hard to take your rubbish with you!
Litter tends to spread, so if you see any and are able to pick it up and dispose of it outside the hidden gem, it will help keep the area tidy.
