The UK’s favourite winter seaside getaway is praised for being fantastic and easy to explore on foot

While winter is not usually the most popular time for a holiday, many Brits still enjoy exploring the UK during the colder months.

With Christmas just around the corner, now is the perfect time for a cosy winter break close to home.

Travel experts at Airbnb have shared the destinations trending on their site, and this place, one of the UK’s best loved seaside cities, has been named one of the top winter staycation spots.

This classic coastal resort is also known as the country’s most walkable seaside city, making it a brilliant choice for anyone who enjoys crisp winter strolls.

One of Brighton’s biggest attractions is the stunning Royal Pavilion, originally built as a seaside escape for King George IV.

During winter, the Pavilion is open to visitors from 10am until 5.15pm, with last entry at 4.30pm.

You can also go ice skating in its grand surroundings, although you must book your time slot in advance. The rink is open daily from 9.30am to 9.30pm.

‘AnnE & Chas’ wrote on TripAdvisor: “What a fantastic experience. The Royal Pavilion was so exotic and full of splendour.

“It must have been stunning when it was first built as it took our breath away. It has aged very elegantly due to the hard work of all the staff concerned.”

If the weather turns rainy and windy, there is nothing nicer than wandering through the shops and boutiques tucked inside Brighton Lanes.

From vintage finds to quirky gifts, the Lanes are a great place to pick up last minute Christmas presents. And if nothing catches your eye, you can always relax in a cosy café with a hot chocolate or a glass of mulled wine.

If the skies stay clear, take a refreshing walk along the promenade and look out for the remains of the old pier, which still stands even after the fire.

Remember - LeaveNoTrace!

As with anywhere outdoors, kindly keep these areas pristine and wild by taking all trash with you. The amount of complaints we have seen since the pandemic is crazy. It's really not that hard to take your rubbish with you!

Litter tends to spread, so if you see any and are able to pick it up and dispose of it outside the hidden gem, it will help keep the area tidy.
