A local woman who lives beside what she calls one of the most overlooked National Parks in the UK has encouraged people looking for a scenic staycation to visit this beautiful Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
Steph Robinson says it is the most remote and least visited National Park in Britain, making it perfect for a quiet weekend away without busy crowds.
"You may have visited England, but have you ever been to this place?" she asked in a TikTok video. "Here’s how to spend a few days in my favourite place, which also happens to be home."
Steph added: "I’ve spent the last few years exploring Northumberland National Park and nearby areas, and honestly, nowhere else compares."
The Geordie creator then shared a series of photos showing just how varied the area is, from peaceful beaches to deep forests, as well as the striking Lambley Viaduct, which stretches 260 metres across the River South Tyne. "We have more castles than anywhere else in England," she said proudly.
"Hills, wildlife, a beautiful coastline and stunning sunrises are everywhere, and it’s perfect for dog walks too," she explained.
She also pointed out that there are plenty of pubs and places to stay that welcome dogs, before highlighting the must visit spots that make the area feel truly special.

"The symbol of Northumberland is a must see, and you cannot visit without taking a beach walk past it," Steph said. "Bamburgh village has just been named the UK’s best seaside town for the fifth year running."
Talking about Lindisfarne, Steph explained that the tidal island can "only be reached when the sea allows it". She said: "It feels magical, a little eerie and very cinematic, and it even appeared in the 2025 film 28 Years Later."
Calling it "the most magical National Trust place I’ve ever visited", Steph spoke about a historic house that was the first in the world to use hydroelectric power, surrounded by lakes, gardens and walking trails.
For anyone who loves waterfalls, she also suggested Hareshaw Linn, which has a three mile family friendly path that feels like something from a storybook.
Steph also praised Kielder Forest, which is the largest man made woodland in England and home to the biggest man made reservoir in Northern Europe.
"There are loads of routes suitable for prams and wheelchairs," she said. "And when it gets dark, this is where Northumberland really shines as part of Europe’s largest protected dark sky area."
Remember - LeaveNoTrace!
As with anywhere outdoors, kindly keep these areas pristine and wild by taking all trash with you. The amount of complaints we have seen since the pandemic is crazy. It's really not that hard to take your rubbish with you!
Litter tends to spread, so if you see any and are able to pick it up and dispose of it outside the hidden gem, it will help keep the area tidy.
