If you are looking for a perfect day trip, this quaint UK village ticks every box with ease.
This lovely Northumberland village is small, pretty and full of things to enjoy, whether you are stopping by for a short visit or planning a family weekend away.
The first thing you will spot is the striking castle, a huge medieval fortress that rises proudly above the village.

The castle’s keep is still impressive, the grounds are spacious enough for a relaxed wander, and there is lots of room for children to run about without anyone minding.
It also offers such stunning views that you will automatically reach for your phone to take photos.
A short stroll from the castle takes you to the village’s main street, which is lined with independent shops and cafés. It is the kind of place where you can happily wander from one end to the other at an easy pace.
There is a traditional sweet shop, a couple of art galleries and several pubs that serve good, hearty meals without being fussy.
Warkworth is not famous for fine dining, but you will have no trouble finding something tasty for lunch.
If you want something calmer, head to the River Coquet. The riverside path is level and peaceful, perfect for a gentle walk.

Along the way you will see plenty of ducks, the odd heron and, if you are lucky, you might even spot an otter.
One of the village’s most fascinating sights is the Warkworth Hermitage, a medieval chapel carved straight into the rock on the opposite bank.
During the warmer months, you can reach it by rowing boat, which makes the visit feel even more special. For those who enjoy the seaside, Warkworth is only a short distance from one of Northumberland’s wide, sandy beaches.
Warkworth Beach is huge, breezy and rarely busy, making it ideal for a dog walk, a paddle or even a dramatic TV style moment with the wind blowing through your hair.
Remember - LeaveNoTrace!
As with anywhere outdoors, kindly keep these areas pristine and wild by taking all trash with you. The amount of complaints we have seen since the pandemic is crazy. It's really not that hard to take your rubbish with you!
Litter tends to spread, so if you see any and are able to pick it up and dispose of it outside the hidden gem, it will help keep the area tidy.
