This is the magical hidden beach where waterfalls tumble down dramatic cliffs

Tucked away at the base of the Quantock Hills on Somerset’s north coast lies this stunning hidden gem.

This peaceful beach is a mix of pebbles, sand, shingle and rock, and is famous for its two waterfalls that tumble gracefully down the cliffs onto the shore.

This beautiful bay is said to have some of the most fascinating geology in Somerset and, like many beaches along this coast, it’s a favourite among fossil hunters.

Fossils are often found scattered along the foreshore or within fallen cliff sections. But the real highlight here is undoubtedly the pair of waterfalls.

Some visitors have debated whether they can truly be called waterfalls since they don’t always gush with great force, but most still refer to them fondly as the ‘St Audries waterfalls’.

They are at their most spectacular after heavy rainfall, when the water cascades down in full flow.

However, visitors should always check tide times before setting off, as the falls can only be reached at low tide.

Those looking to swim can take a dip in the sea, though it’s worth noting that the Bristol Channel waters here are often cloudy, and the sand near the waterline can get quite muddy.

Visitors have shared glowing reviews of St Audries Bay on The Beach Guide website. One wrote: “Despite coming this way for the past 15 years, this was our first visit to St Audries Bay. The sun was shining, and we had a magical afternoon. I’d definitely recommend it.”

Another visitor added: “Absolutely beautiful. I could have stayed there for hours. Be warned though, it can be a little tricky to get down if you have a pushchair or wheelchair, but it’s definitely worth it.”

A third reviewer summed it up perfectly, saying: “A great place to escape everyday life. Such a lovely spot, absolutely worth a visit.”

Remember - LeaveNoTrace!

As with anywhere outdoors, kindly keep these areas pristine and wild by taking all trash with you. The amount of complaints we have seen since the pandemic is crazy. It's really not that hard to take your rubbish with you!

Litter tends to spread, so if you see any and are able to pick it up and dispose of it outside the hidden gem, it will help keep the area tidy.
