The charming limestone village lies at the top of the gentle Lathkill Dale, surrounded by beautiful scenery. There are brilliant walking routes nearby, and the Limestone Way runs straight through the village, giving paths in every direction.

The Monyash Walk covers four miles across gates, steps, stiles and squeeze stiles, taking between one and two hours to finish.

The ground can be a little uneven as you cross the dales, but there are no steep climbs or drops, so you can enjoy the amazing views at a relaxed pace.

Another highlight in the area is Arbor Low, a Neolithic henge set high on the moorland. It features a bank and ditch, with around 50 fallen white stone slabs arranged in a circle around a central space.

This special layout appears only at certain ancient sites, and it sits close to Gib Hill, an important burial mound.

Experts believe it dates back to between 3,000 and 2,500 BC, making it one of the most impressive prehistoric spots in the Peaks.

One amazed visitor wrote on TripAdvisor: “Fantastically huge site and presence. Can only imagine the scale and sensation at this place when it was in full function.”

“All the surrounding alignments can be seen at various points right out to the horizon, showing clearly the ancients’ knowledge of movements and how each cycle shaped the seasons and life itself.”

The heart of the village has a green with the remains of an old market cross, reminding visitors of its history in mining and farming.

Nearby stands the lovely church of St Leonard, with its elegant spire rising above the tower, acting as a landmark across the quiet countryside.

Remember - LeaveNoTrace!

As with anywhere outdoors, kindly keep these areas pristine and wild by taking all trash with you. The amount of complaints we have seen since the pandemic is crazy. It's really not that hard to take your rubbish with you!

Litter tends to spread, so if you see any and are able to pick it up and dispose of it outside the hidden gem, it will help keep the area tidy.
