This incredible location is a true wonder of nature, featuring towering limestone cliffs that rise dramatically above the landscape.
Stretching for miles, the gorge offers some of the most scenic views in the UK, especially if you're brave enough to hike to the top. The trails wind through rugged terrain, giving you the chance to look out over the beautiful Somerset countryside.
Beneath the surface, the hidden caves are just as impressive. These ancient underground caverns were shaped by flowing water over millions of years, and they hold fascinating rock formations that look almost otherworldly.
The gorge is about 3 miles long, with cliffs reaching up to 450 feet in some areas. It’s a great place for hiking, with several trails that offer incredible views from the top of the cliffs.
The walk can be a bit challenging in places, but the effort is worth it for the stunning scenery. You can see the rolling Somerset countryside stretch out below and, on a clear day, you might even catch a glimpse of the coast in the distance.

The wildlife here is another big draw. Wild goats can often be seen climbing the steep cliffs, while rare birds like peregrine falcons soar above.
The plant life is equally special, with unique flowers and plants thriving in the rocky crevices.
And let’s not forget the local village nearby, which is world-famous for its cheese! After a day of exploring the gorge, you can sample some of the area’s finest cheddar and soak up a bit of local history.
Remember - LeaveNoTrace!
As with anywhere outdoors, kindly keep these areas pristine and wild by taking all trash with you. The amount of complaints we have seen since the pandemic is crazy. It's really not that hard to take your rubbish with you!
Litter tends to spread, so if you see any and are able to pick it up and dispose of it outside the hidden gem, it will help keep the area tidy.
