Famous around the world for its stunning scenery and pretty villages, the Lake District National Park attracts visitors from near and far.
While places like Ambleside and Windermere usually get most of the attention, more and more people are now searching for quieter escapes.
Scroll through social media and you’ll quickly come across plenty of posts about “hidden gems”, as travellers love the idea of finding a peaceful spot that feels untouched.
One travel expert, Jerry Rebbeck from Wheelwrights, has revealed a true hidden treasure in the Lakes, close to the busiest areas but offering a calmer, more authentic experience of this beautiful region.
It’s the perfect place for anyone wanting a quiet retreat, set just off the well-worn paths and giving visitors a real sense of peace.
Only seven minutes by car from busy Ambleside, and just seventeen minutes from Grasmere, this little haven is easy to reach yet feels far removed from the crowds.
The village of Skelwith Bridge has recently become popular on TikTok, thanks to its “stunning views”.
Photos and videos online show exactly why people are falling in love with it, reports the Express.

Its charm isn’t just in the traditional cottages, but also in the wonderful surroundings that make it such a special place to visit.
According to the expert, “It gets its name from a stone bridge crossing the River Brathay.
The area is perfect for walks and is home to amazing British wildlife, including otters, kingfishers, herons and lots of fish.”
Just a short four-minute walk along the river brings you to Skelwith Force, a small sixteen-foot waterfall.
The expert explains that while it’s “less well-known than some of the bigger waterfalls nearby, it’s still a beautiful spot and adds to Skelwith Bridge’s reputation as a hidden gem.”
Remember - LeaveNoTrace!
As with anywhere outdoors, kindly keep these areas pristine and wild by taking all trash with you. The amount of complaints we have seen since the pandemic is crazy. It's really not that hard to take your rubbish with you!
Litter tends to spread, so if you see any and are able to pick it up and dispose of it outside the hidden gem, it will help keep the area tidy.
