UK’s best budget campsite by a national park with waterfalls and a nearby pub

This hidden gem in Cumbria was recognised in the Campsites.co.uk Camping and Glamping Awards and sits in the Northern Lake District, close to the northern fells of High Pike and Carrock Fell.

The small campsite has 13 grass pitches in total, and three of them come with electric hook ups.

If camping under canvas is not for you, there is also a cosy bell tent ready and waiting on site.

Inside the adults only bell tent, guests will find a comfortable double bed, electricity, tea and coffee making facilities, plus a table and chairs.

Step outside and there is a private garden area with a fire pit, outdoor seating and a sheltered bench. Guests staying in the bell tent also have their own private toilet.

The campsite was also included in the Campsites.co.uk 2025 Outstanding Sites list and sits right on the Cumbrian Way footpath, which makes it perfect for keen walkers.

Barbecues are welcome here as long as they are lifted off the ground, making it a great choice for relaxed summer evenings.

One happy guest said: “Fire pits on every pitch and the pitches are a really good size. The site was so peaceful with hardly any noise at night. The host was lovely and friendly. We would definitely come back.”

If you fancy a drink before turning in, The Oddfellow Arms pub is only a five minute walk from the campsite.

There is plenty to see and do nearby, including Aira Force Waterfall which is around 30 minutes away.

The impressive 20 metre high waterfall sits within an 18th century pleasure garden, and there are several woodland trails to wander along. If you are lucky, you might even spot a rare red squirrel.

Remember - LeaveNoTrace!

As with anywhere outdoors, kindly keep these areas pristine and wild by taking all trash with you. The amount of complaints we have seen since the pandemic is crazy. It's really not that hard to take your rubbish with you!

Litter tends to spread, so if you see any and are able to pick it up and dispose of it outside the hidden gem, it will help keep the area tidy.

In the end, my balance was a bit lower, but the fluidity of the platform is highly commendable. It doesn't take up much space on my phone, everything loads almost instantly, and the design is quite intuitive, considering mobile networks here in Canada.

I was in the reception area of a local community centre, just waiting for a simple registration form to be processed. The wait was enormous, and the receptionist asked me to sit on those hard plastic chairs. Wanting to distract myself from the slowness of the service, I grabbed my mobile. I opened River Rock Casino and focused on the screen, trying to ignore the wait for my name to be called.
