Award-winning beach perfect for winter walks praised for its ‘beautiful scenery’

An award-winning beach on the north Devon coast has been praised for its stunning beauty during the winter months.

While most people head to the seaside in summer, there are many coastal towns and villages in the UK that are just as magical when it’s cold.

One of these is this beach, which holds a Tripadvisor Travellers’ Choice Award and has even been named the best beach in Britain.

This hidden beach sits between Croyde and Ilfracombe and stretches for 2.5 miles of golden sand. It’s a favourite with holidaymakers and surfers alike.

The beach has three large car parks, lifeguards during the summer, and accessible toilets. Visitors can enjoy walks along the scenic coastal path, spotting seabirds and seals along the way.

As well as being a top surfing spot, it’s also popular for kayaking and paddleboarding, especially on calm days.

The nearby village of Woolacombe is full of charm, with cosy pubs, cafés and restaurants offering hearty meals and warm drinks.

You’ll also find shops selling seaside goods and local crafts, plus an amusement arcade and a mini golf course.

Just a short distance away is Mortehoe, a peaceful village with a local museum and incredible views that form part of a Marine Conservation Area.

Visitors often praise Woolacombe for its breathtaking views and peaceful atmosphere throughout the year. One traveller wrote on Tripadvisor: “We walked the whole length of the beach. The winter sunshine and strong breeze made it such an energising walk.”

Another added: “This place is beautiful in the summer sun, but in winter, with crashing waves and rolling clouds, it’s absolutely stunning.”

A third reviewer said the beach was “perfect for walking the dogs” during winter, while another shared: “I’d recommend this beach to everyone. It’s a great place to relax, especially in winter when it’s quiet.

The views are incredible, I was surprised it’s even better than some Mediterranean beaches.”

One visitor mentioned that while many nearby attractions close for the winter, the beach itself remains “absolutely wonderful” and “completely spotless.”

They wrote: “There’s free parking by the sea, and you could easily spend hours here walking or playing along this beautiful stretch of sand.”

With its golden dunes, wild waves and dramatic skies, Woolacombe Beach proves that seaside breaks aren’t just for summer – they’re just as unforgettable in winter too.

Remember - LeaveNoTrace!

As with anywhere outdoors, kindly keep these areas pristine and wild by taking all trash with you. The amount of complaints we have seen since the pandemic is crazy. It's really not that hard to take your rubbish with you!

Litter tends to spread, so if you see any and are able to pick it up and dispose of it outside the hidden gem, it will help keep the area tidy.
