Beautiful UK Christmas market where a weekend visit costs less than London’s Winter Wonderland

Each year, thousands of Brits and tourists head to London’s Hyde Park to enjoy the festive fun at the hugely popular Winter Wonderland. It is a lively day out, but it can be very expensive.
Entry to Hyde Park’s Winter Wonderland is free at certain off peak times, but outside these hours visitors usually pay £5 for a standard ticket or £7.50 for a peak ticket.
For a family of four, that adds up to £33 just to get through the gates. On top of this, there are rides, attractions and activities that cost extra, along with food and drinks.
Thankfully, for anyone trying to stick to a budget, there is a UK alternative where even a two night stay can work out cheaper.
While Winter Wonderland offers plenty of festive fun, costs can rise quickly, with many visitors saying they have spent around £200 in one day and £400 over two days.
With a trip to Hyde Park sometimes costing more than a short break abroad, Bath Christmas Market is a brilliant option for those wanting a joyful celebration at a far lower price.
With free entry and more than 200 wooden chalets lining Bath’s cobbled streets, this is one of the UK’s biggest and best known Christmas markets, celebrating its 25th anniversary this year.
Set against the beautiful backdrop of Bath Abbey and the Roman Baths, stalls sell everything from handmade wooden furniture and garden sculptures to knitwear from Bristol and independent fragrances.
Local festive treats are also a big part of the fun, with seasonal goodies from Flapjackery and the Pudding Wagon.
The Christmas cheer continues at nearby Royal Victoria Park, where you can try the ice rink for £16 per adult or £13.50 per child, or enjoy a winter walk around the famous Royal Crescent.
Anyone wanting to experience Bath’s festive magic will need to act fast, as the Christmas Market is only running until Sunday, 14 December.
But there are plenty of good last minute hotel and Airbnb deals, meaning you can enjoy a two night break and explore this charming city, all for less than the cost of two days at London’s Winter Wonderland.
