A stunning spot on the edge of the New Forest has been named one of the prettiest villages for a cosy winter getaway.
This place, described as a classic English village in Hampshire, was given the title by National Rail, which called it an absolute gem.
Visitors love the mix of things to see, including a grand palace, a famous motor museum, and a peaceful river that winds through the village.
Beaulieu Palace is listed as one of the ten ‘Treasure Houses’ of the UK, celebrated as an “architectural masterpiece” surrounded by “beautiful parkland and gardens”.
The house has been home to the Montagu family since 1538 and overlooks the Beaulieu River millpond.
Inside, it’s packed with family heirlooms, portraits and fascinating pieces of history, making it a “fine example of a Victorian country house”.
One reviewer wrote on TripAdvisor: “Fabulous and interesting, especially when decorated for Christmas. There’s so much to see and do, definitely worth a visit.”
Another added: “A wonderful house filled with history and personal stories. Everything was beautifully displayed, and the staff really brought it all to life.”
A third visitor said: “Beaulieu Palace is kept in amazing condition, and the staff, dressed in period costumes, were brilliant at explaining how the house worked in the past.
The exhibits from the different generations made every room feel alive.”
At Beaulieu, guests can buy one ticket that covers entry to both the Palace and the National Motor Museum.
The museum is said to hold “one of the best collections of cars, motorcycles and motoring memorabilia in the world.”
The Beaulieu National Motor Museum has even earned a TripAdvisor Travellers’ Choice Award. One delighted visitor wrote: “What a fantastic place! An incredible collection of cars in beautiful surroundings. My 10-year-old car-mad son and 3-year-old daughter were entertained all day.”
