As the air turns cooler and the days grow shorter, autumn is fast approaching, making it the perfect time to plan a cosy weekend escape.
A seasonal break in Britain offers peaceful countryside walks, evenings by a warm fire, and the chance to explore charming villages and market towns under gentle autumn rain.
Condé Nast Traveller has revealed some of the best autumn destinations in the UK, and among them is this beautiful village in North Norfolk.
This quaint coastal spot is known for its golden sands, pine woodlands, impressive stately home and rich wildlife, according to the Express.
Visitors can spend time at Holkham Beach, the star attraction of North Norfolk’s coastline and one of the cleanest stretches of sand in Britain.
The beach is loved by dog walkers, horse riders and families, stretching for miles at low tide and backed by peaceful pine forests.
On a cool autumn day, you might find the beach almost completely empty, with nothing but the sound of the waves and the breeze across the sand.
One visitor, Marie, shared: “Fabulous beach with miles of golden sand. The weather wasn’t great when we visited, but that meant it was quiet.
We walked for around three miles and only saw other people on the way back to the car park. We could hear jets flying overhead but couldn’t see them because of the clouds. We’ll definitely return on a sunny day.”
Another visitor, Steve Grant, wrote: “We parked in town and walked along the estuary to the beach. The walk was lovely, but the beach was even better. I loved the colourful beach huts, it was well worth the effort to get there.”
After a refreshing stroll along the coast, visitors can explore Holkham’s fascinating history by visiting the grand 18th-century Holkham Hall.
The stately home, surrounded by parkland and lakes, offers a glimpse into Norfolk’s heritage and makes for a perfect end to a peaceful autumn day.
