Seaside village with breathtaking views named one of the UK’s best winter beach destinations

A pretty village in North Yorkshire, famous for its cobbled streets and seaside charm, has been praised for its stunning bay, which has been named one of the UK’s best winter beach destinations.

This hidden gem is home to a wide sandy beach filled with rock pools and fossils to discover, along with cosy cafés and restaurants to enjoy after a seaside walk.

While it’s a favourite summer spot, it’s just as magical during the colder months.

Robin Hood’s Bay was recently crowned the UK’s top winter beach location by Holiday Cottages, which called it the perfect place for a peaceful coastal stroll.

The beach is also ideal for dogs, with plenty of open space for them to “run wild,” and lots of rock pools waiting to be explored.

At the centre of the village, the Robin Hood’s Bay and Fylingdales Museum showcases fascinating displays and artefacts that tell the story of the area’s rich local history.

Just a mile south of the village lies Boggle Hole, a small, sheltered cove shaped by the powerful waves of the North Sea.

Boggle Hole is easy to reach along the Cleveland Way footpath, which offers stunning clifftop views across the bay. The spot is a favourite for fossil hunters and dog walkers alike.

One visitor said: “It’s a lovely walk from the village with incredible views and the fun of fossil hunting along the way.”

Another wrote on TripAdvisor that it was “a great place to find fossils and not too busy,” adding: “Much to my son’s delight, we found five fossils quickly and spent ages skimming stones on the beach.”

For anyone keen to learn more about the local area, the Old Coastguard Station is a National Trust visitor centre right by the shore. It has interactive displays about local geology, wildlife, and how climate change affects the coastline.

There’s also a small café serving sandwiches, pasties, hot drinks and ice cream, as well as a shelf of second-hand books to browse.

One visitor wrote on TripAdvisor: “A fabulous historic village where every step reveals another beautiful view, it’s impossible not to fall in love with this place.”

Another praised the “exciting drive down” to the bay and said they loved walking around the “amazing scenery.”

A third reviewer added: “The whole area is stunning. The cliffs are incredible, the walking trails are brilliant, and the town itself is lovely. Busy in summer, but perfect in the quieter months.”

Remember - LeaveNoTrace!

As with anywhere outdoors, kindly keep these areas pristine and wild by taking all trash with you. The amount of complaints we have seen since the pandemic is crazy. It's really not that hard to take your rubbish with you!

Litter tends to spread, so if you see any and are able to pick it up and dispose of it outside the hidden gem, it will help keep the area tidy.
