Hidden beneath the wild cliffs of the Penwith Peninsula is a beach many people believe is the “most beautiful in Cornwall”, and possibly one of the nicest on the planet.
Yet it still stays surprisingly quiet compared to nearby hotspots like St Ives and Newquay.
This hidden gem sits in a secret little bay, offering views so stunning you could easily imagine you were somewhere far away and tropical.
Its bright turquoise water and soft pale sand, surrounded by dramatic cliffs, make it feel like a peaceful island hideaway, and the lack of crowds only adds to that feeling.
In 2022, this hidden beach was recognised around the world when Big 7 Travel named it one of the best beaches on the planet, even ranking it above famous sandy spots in Jamaica and Thailand that holidaymakers spend a fortune to reach.
Although you can see the beach clearly from above, getting down to it takes a bit of effort.
You have to follow a path along the old cliffs and only visit at low tide, which makes it feel even more secretive, reports Cornwall Live.
Visitors should know that the walk can be tough, so wearing good shoes and checking tide times beforehand is very important.
Fans of the BBC show Poldark might recognise the area, as it appeared in one of the dream scenes under the slightly changed name of Nampara Cove.
Anyone heading down should also be aware that some beachgoers prefer to sunbathe without clothes, so it can be a surprising sight if you’re not expecting it.
Cornwall Beaches notes that Pedn Vounder has been a popular naturist beach for many years, long before Poldark made it famous.
The site adds: “If you’re worried about it spoiling your photos, remember the people who visit this way were here long before you, and many come throughout the whole year.”
