A delightful little town just north of Merseyside has everything you could want for a peaceful getaway.
If you’re searching for a picturesque place filled with countryside charm, lovely shops, and even a waterfall, this place is the perfect choice.
This pretty town sits at the northern tip of Windermere, which is the largest lake in England.
Although it has a small population of under 3,000 people, this place draws visitors from across the country who come to admire its incredible scenery.
The town is filled with old slate buildings that now house outdoor shops, cosy cafés, and even its own small cinema.
During the summer months, it’s the ideal place for relaxed walks, with plenty of trails weaving through the nearby hills and woodland.
Ambleside is home to several landmarks, including the famous Bridge House, said to be Britain’s smallest home and one of the most photographed spots in the Lake District.
Just a short stroll from the town centre, you’ll find Stock Ghyll Force, a spectacular 70ft waterfall hidden amongst the trees.

Food lovers will be spoiled for choice too, with top-quality restaurants, bakeries, and friendly cafés throughout the town.
According to Lancs Live, three local restaurants kept their Michelin stars this year – The Old Stamp House, Lake Road Kitchen, and The Samling Hotel just outside Ambleside.
The town’s fascinating history stretches back to Roman times, with an old fort at Waterhead and links to famous names like Wordsworth, John Ruskin, and Beatrix Potter.
Visitors can also explore the Armitt Museum to learn more about Ambleside’s heritage and art, or unwind with a film at Zeffirellis, the town’s beloved independent cinema.
Remember - LeaveNoTrace!
As with anywhere outdoors, kindly keep these areas pristine and wild by taking all trash with you. The amount of complaints we have seen since the pandemic is crazy. It's really not that hard to take your rubbish with you!
Litter tends to spread, so if you see any and are able to pick it up and dispose of it outside the hidden gem, it will help keep the area tidy.
