There’s nothing quite like a winter walk. The crisp air, rosy cheeks and the promise of a cosy pub at the end make it one of the best simple pleasures.
With the days growing shorter, it’s the perfect time to head to the coast, breathe in the fresh sea air and blow those cobwebs away.
If you’re ready to swap the sofa for some sunshine and sea views, one stunning Cornish walk could be just what you need.
The picturesque village of Lizard, on Cornwall’s south coast, has been recognised as one of the best winter walks in the UK.
This scenic loop begins and ends in the village, guiding walkers along the rugged cliffs of the Lizard Peninsula and out over the wild Atlantic Ocean.
The four-mile circular route includes the famous Lizard Point, the most southerly point on mainland Britain, where the sea breeze hits full force.
The trail was named by The Telegraph as one of the country’s best winter walks, and with its breathtaking views, it’s easy to see why.
Even in the coldest months, this stretch of coastline is full of beauty, with dramatic cliffs and waves crashing below. The path dips and climbs along the cliffs, offering moderate challenges that most walkers can manage in around two hours.
Once back in the village, reward yourself with a classic Cornish pasty. Anne’s Famous Pasty Shop is a local favourite, known for serving up some of the tastiest in the county.
After your bite to eat, step into The Top House Inn for a well-deserved pint. This historic pub has been welcoming travellers for more than 200 years and is loved for its warm atmosphere and excellent Cornish ales.
It’s best to dress for the weather, as the Lizard sits right on the Atlantic and can get blustery in winter. Make sure to wear layers, bring a windproof jacket and lace up some sturdy boots for the uneven terrain.
One happy visitor shared: “What a fabulous walk with so many interesting views. It’s not too hard at all – a bit up and down, but quite gentle for a Cornish coastal path. Highly recommend.”

As with anywhere outdoors, kindly keep these areas pristine and wild by taking all trash with you. The amount of complaints we have seen since the pandemic is crazy. It's really not that hard to take your rubbish with you!
Litter tends to spread, so if you see any and are able to pick it up and dispose of it outside the hidden gem, it will help keep the area tidy.
