Cornwall is a favourite place for summer holidays, especially now that more families are choosing peaceful staycations instead of pricey trips abroad.
But while the county is beautiful, the beaches in big hotspots like Newquay and St Ives can often become very crowded.
Yet with nearly all of Cornwall surrounded by sea, some of its quieter beaches can actually be far nicer, including one hidden spot with soft sand and bright blue water that many people don’t even know exists.

Just north of the famous Bedruthan Steps on Cornwall’s wild north coast sits Pentire Steps.
Found almost exactly halfway between Newquay and Padstow, it’s ideal for escaping the crowds and is known by locals as a calm, secret hideaway that still somehow stays under the radar.
Pentire Steps is split from its well-known neighbour, Bedruthan Steps, by a grassy rocky outcrop called Diggory’s Island.
However, when the tide is low, the two beaches connect to form a long, peaceful stretch of golden sand.
Because this beach is trickier to reach, with a steep climb down a cliff at the end, many visitors decide not to attempt it.
Pentire Steps isn’t just a great beach though – it also opens the door to more lovely places along the Pentire headland, which is cared for by the National Trust.
The area has several high coastal paths that offer amazing views across Padstow Bay, and birdwatchers will be pleased to know that rare seabirds now live here too.
Remember - LeaveNoTrace!
As with anywhere outdoors, kindly keep these areas pristine and wild by taking all trash with you. The amount of complaints we have seen since the pandemic is crazy. It's really not that hard to take your rubbish with you!
Litter tends to spread, so if you see any and are able to pick it up and dispose of it outside the hidden gem, it will help keep the area tidy.
