Secret UK beach with golden sands where dolphins are often spotted

Hidden in the lovely Welsh seaside village of Aberporth is one of the UK’s best secret beaches, ideal for a summer escape.

Even though it’s called a singluar beach, it’s actually made up of two beaches. One beach sits to the east, whilst the other beach lies to the west.

Both are beautifully sandy, rich with wildlife, and attract visitors from all over who are looking for a quieter spot away from the crowds.

While it doesn’t currently hold Blue Flag status, it did win the award in 2023, and its water quality is still rated as ‘good’, according to the Express.

The beach has soft sand with a gentle slope into the sea, making it a safe and popular choice for swimmers and beach activities.

Low tide is when Aberporth truly shines, as rock pools appear, filled with fascinating sea creatures waiting to be discovered.

It’s also one of the best places to spot incredible wildlife, with orcas, porpoises, sunfish and even sharks seen around its waters.

There’s also plenty of space for relaxing on the golden sands, soaking up the sun, or enjoying a quiet day by the sea.

Children and families will love it too, as it’s perfect for sandcastle building and hours of fun on the beach.

A nearby clifftop path to the village of Tresaith offers stunning sea views and the chance to spot bottlenose dolphins leaping in Cardigan Bay.

On the headland between Dolwen and Dyffryn, visitors will also find a dolphin statue, a local landmark celebrating the area’s special wildlife.

Aberporth’s maritime history lives on in its restaurants and cafés, where visitors can try freshly caught local seafood, including Cardigan Bay lobster and crab.

Facilities at the beach include a café, toilets, showers, disabled access, a first aid point and a slipway, with activities such as sailing, fishing, surfing, swimming and windsurfing available.

Aberporth Beach is also dog friendly, with pets welcome all year round, although Dolwen Beach does have some restrictions between September and June.

Remember - LeaveNoTrace!

As with anywhere outdoors, kindly keep these areas pristine and wild by taking all trash with you. The amount of complaints we have seen since the pandemic is crazy. It's really not that hard to take your rubbish with you!

Litter tends to spread, so if you see any and are able to pick it up and dispose of it outside the hidden gem, it will help keep the area tidy.
