Secret UK beach with sandy coves, golden shores and a ‘singing’ cave

On Cornwall’s far western tip, where the coast tapers off into the Atlantic, there is a beach that still feels untouched, according to people who have made the effort to find it.

This hidden gem is a spot many holidaymakers in the county don’t even know exists, let alone visit.

With no direct road access and no signs pointing the way, it remains one of Cornwall’s most hidden and unspoilt places.

Unlike popular areas such as Porthcurno or the busy paths near Land’s End, Nanjizal is wild, dramatic and completely natural.

There are no cafés, no lifeguards, and no stalls selling treats. Instead, you’re greeted by golden sand scattered with enormous rocks and shadowy caves, all overlooked by cliffs shaped by centuries of fierce Atlantic winds and waves.

The beach’s most famous feature is the narrow rock arch carved into the cliff, known locally as the Song of the Sea.

The tide has created a slim, tall opening in the stone, almost like a window in an old cathedral.

When the sunlight shines through, it creates a magical glow, sending shimmering reflections across the clear tidal pools beneath it.

Anyone who arrives at low tide gets to enjoy far more than just a look at the arch. Flat pools appear across the sand, perfect for dipping your toes in or spotting tiny sea creatures.

Children explore the rocks and peek into cracks where crabs and small fish quickly hide. At high tide, the water covers most of the sand completely, adding to the beach’s sense of mystery and making tide times important to check.

Nanjizal’s remote location is part of what makes it special. The closest places to park are a 20 to 30-minute walk away, either at Trevescan or the Land’s End complex.

Walkers following the South West Coast Path can also drop down to the bay.

The walk itself feels like part of the adventure, and even in the busiest months of summer, it helps keep the beach peaceful and rarely crowded.

Remember - LeaveNoTrace!

As with anywhere outdoors, kindly keep these areas pristine and wild by taking all trash with you. The amount of complaints we have seen since the pandemic is crazy. It's really not that hard to take your rubbish with you!

Litter tends to spread, so if you see any and are able to pick it up and dispose of it outside the hidden gem, it will help keep the area tidy.
