Surprising UK spot named the best place for dog friendly staycations

You might imagine the North has wilder scenery and more open land for you and your dogs, but it is actually the South that leads the way for dog friendly staycations.

The South West has been named England’s top region for dog friendly trips, with this well known trail taking the overall title.

This much-loved trail along the Devon and Cornwall coastline came first thanks to its amazing sea views, year round appeal, and easy access for dog walkers.

Coastal paths are proving to be the best places to walk with dogs, with four of them appearing in the top ten and two landing in the top three. The rest of the list is made up of well known National Park routes across moorland and countryside, along with one river trail.

The index shows a clear divide between the North and South for pet friendly beauty spots. Even though the top ten is split evenly, the top three all sit in the South of England.

Even with the South taking the lead, Yorkshire is the only county to have three routes in the top ten. Created by Agria Pet Insurance, the index makes planning an active break for the whole family, including your dogs, simpler than ever.

In first place is the South West Coast Path. Beginning in Minehead, Somerset, and ending at Poole Harbour, Dorset, it stretches across 630 miles of stunning English coastline and passes through four Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

The trail can be broken into shorter sections, so it suits experienced hikers, gentle strollers, and now dog owners too.

Some parts of the South West Coast Path let dogs wander freely, and there are no seasonal rules stopping dog access, which means you can enjoy the changing scenery at any time of year. It also has great parking options and plenty of dog friendly public transport.

In second place is the Charles III England South East Coast Path, which runs along the South East Coast from Sussex to Kent.

Here you can explore seaside towns with long sandy beaches, Ancient Roman remains, Napoleonic Martello towers, the famous White Cliffs of Dover, and wartime history as you travel from Shoreham by Sea to Saltdean in Brighton.

The King Charles III England South East Coast Path has something for everyone, whether it is Dover Castle for history fans, saltmarsh and mudflats for keen young bird watchers, or lots of chances to spot passing ships from Folkestone Harbour to South Foreland Lighthouse.

Remember - LeaveNoTrace!

As with anywhere outdoors, kindly keep these areas pristine and wild by taking all trash with you. The amount of complaints we have seen since the pandemic is crazy. It's really not that hard to take your rubbish with you!

Litter tends to spread, so if you see any and are able to pick it up and dispose of it outside the hidden gem, it will help keep the area tidy.
