Nestled on the western edge of the Glamorgan Heritage Coast, a small seaside village in Wales has surprisingly become a favourite for Londoners looking for a calmer and more scenic way of living.
Just three miles south of Bridgend and about 20 miles west of Cardiff, this lovely spot is drawing in newcomers thanks to its stunning sea views and relaxed atmosphere.
With only around 878 residents, this place is a huge change from the busy streets of the capital.
The village sits where the River Ogmore meets the sea, surrounded by sandy stretches and the rolling dunes of Merthyr Mawr.
Its beaches, sandy when the tide is out and rocky when it comes in, offer a beautiful but wild landscape that has charmed both locals and holidaymakers for years.
Ogmore-by-Sea isn’t just pretty to look at; it also has a long and fascinating past.
Its west-facing coastline, similar to the shores of Cornwall and Brittany, was once known as a dangerous resting place for ships during strong storms.
The risky Tusker Rock, which lies just off the coast and disappears under water at high tide, has caused countless wrecks over time.
Stories have been told about villagers using lights to trick ships into crashing, but there is no real proof these tales ever happened.
Alongside its history by the sea, Ogmore-by-Sea is home to a close community.
The village church began in a small home in 1954 but grew so much that a proper building was needed by 1968.
The church, still going strong, celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2018, showing how the village spirit has stayed alive over the years.
