The breathtaking reservoir walk near Manchester with giant water plugholes

This incredible location offers something for everyone, whether you're into outdoor adventures or simply want to enjoy some time in nature.

One of the most unique features of this spot is its impressive "plugholes." These massive circular overflows help manage the water levels, and when the reservoir is full, you can watch the water cascade down them like a giant drain. It’s an amazing sight and a favourite for photographers and visitors alike.

Surrounded by lush hills and forests, the area is perfect for walking or cycling, with trails that wind around the water and through the scenic countryside

Built in the 1940s, Ladybower Reservoir is one of the largest man-made lakes in the UK. It was created to provide water to the nearby cities, but today it’s also a popular spot for walking, cycling, and even fishing.

One of the most interesting things about Ladybower is that it flooded two small villages, Derwent and Ashopton, when it was built.

On rare occasions when the water levels are really low, the ruins of these old villages can still be seen, which adds a bit of mystery and history to the place.

The reservoir is surrounded by beautiful hills and valleys, making it perfect for long walks or bike rides.

There’s a circular trail around the water that’s fairly easy, so you don’t have to be a hardcore hiker to enjoy it.

Along the way, you’ll be treated to amazing views of the water and the rolling hills beyond. It’s especially pretty in autumn when the leaves change colour, or in winter when frost covers the landscape.

Remember - LeaveNoTrace!

As with anywhere outdoors, kindly keep these areas pristine and wild by taking all trash with you. The amount of complaints we have seen since the pandemic is crazy. It's really not that hard to take your rubbish with you!

Litter tends to spread, so if you see any and are able to pick it up and dispose of it outside the hidden gem, it will help keep the area tidy.
